IFTA is like home to me. It's the third time I'm hosting for them and by now the start-ups I saw in the year 2019 have now gone on to become companies worth millions thanks to the boom in the Fintech Industry.
The video you see below is only what went on during the awards night. Apart from this, we had three full days of Panel Discussions and Demo Presentations. I think I should add here that on the second day of this journey our country announced that Crypto might be banned from here on and even that could not hamper the spirits of our panelists.
But seriously though, what does an emcee do in a conference which he/she does not know much about? How much is an anchor supposed to know about the subject of the discussion? Should we just make announcements and move on? What is really expected out of us?
If I can put in my two cents, I will tell you- you just have to be you. Yes, you need your research on the topic, yes you have to be updated with the news of the world, but again let me emphasize- you have to be you.
A lot of emcee's are categorized into the corporate sector or the wedding sector. A lot of times I'm asked which one I belong to and quite frankly I think I am capable of executing both very well. Why? Dont I have a signature style of talking on stage or conducting myself with a poise like we see all over social media today? I do. And, I carry it with equal ease to host a wedding or compere a conference. Or maybe, I should say it like this- I be me and all situations are handled to the best that way. Like for instance, one of the judges was quite annoyed at the delay of receiving her marksheet and was very vocal about it, in turn creating a bit of tension for the presenters of the demo's. And just by chance, no one from the technical team was present on the Zoom call to help her out. All I did was step in, apologize on the team's behalf and told her that I will make sure she gets it asap (even though I had no clue where to procure it from). Taking responsibility was all it took to calm her down and we could all then breathe normally :)
I also came up with a few one - minute -games which we played with the panelists, judges and participants to make all three days a bit light for everyone. Now this was my idea and I'm glad I put it across. All I'm trying to say- I was just me throughout. :)
