A prestigious Gujarati wedding and a venue which dolled up like it is a bouquet of colorful lights, flowers sweets and of course, the charismatic people who made it all happen- all of this and much more was witnessed first hand when I was hired to host their Sangeet night.
Now mind you, these occassions are known to bring happiness galore but a slight delay or lack of activity can cause havoc even in such a pleasant setting. This can be a deadening situation and this is where a good emcee comes in.
Just holding fort and having the presence of mind to tweak one of your best games for this occassion can not only calm nerves of the family members but can also make the evening more entertaining than planned.
As much as events are planned, there are bound to be things changing last minute and it is only with experience I have learnt that staying centered can get the whole event going in a good flow.
This particular evening our bride and groom were an extremely shy couple quite contrast to the rest of the family members. The brief given to me was to engage the maximum with both of them during the whole sangeet event. Now, what would you do if you were in my place? Would you drag a couple who was not even keen on getting clicked too much on their big day to an impromptu "who knows who better game" or would you let them sit back, relax and watch their families do the song and dance routine for them? And what did I really do? Well, you had to be there to know. But I can tell you, all parties involved left the venue in high spirits and it did not look like it was an event which did not go as per plan at all.
