Hi there! I am an Anchor who basically talks her way through most Events and this talking is so smooth that a lot of times, the audience is having fun at their own expense!
Now if you thought only "Talking" would be enough then you're mistaken because apart from good diction and command over language as an Anchor , I have to be witty, caring for emotions and majorly Fearless when I'm with an audience.
So in short, I'm paid to conduct the party ( R&R, conferences, weddings etc....) and it is my job to blend in with the audience like we've been friends right from the moment we were born!
Sounds easy right? You bet!
Coming to this rainy evening in Lonavla for Tafe- Did you know that in the biggest of the events, there are a lot of things which remain "unknown" until it's time for them to be shown to the audience?
I mean, inspite of the best intentions -awards and awardees can go missing, the person coming on stage even after his/her name being announced could be caught up with something?
And, since the Anchor sort of becomes the "face" of the entire evening, it is then understood that anything and everything that happens on stage is a doing by the anchor.
Yes, all this and more happens! By saying this, I do not mean to demean the efforts of any event managers or companies. Had the occurances of such incidents been in their hands, these incidents would never have occured at all.
The idea to write this piece to share things as they occur during the event
and exactly how they effect me and how I tackle them.
The audience at Tafe had been through an entire day of non-stop fun with another anchor and it was after that- at around 7pm that I went on to stage.
Cocktails and starters were being served and a large crowd of exhausted people wanted to take their awards and bid goodbye.
This is where tables had to be turned and my enthusiasm had to spread to all of them.
Not everything I said got a great response. Not every joke I made was funny. Yet, you'll see in the video below that if the Anchor's spirits are high, he/ she can make an entire ballroom fly high.
Apart from all the wonderful things on that day, there's something else that will always remain fresh in my memory from this event.
The event managers for this one, time and again lauded my effort for punctuality. In fact, truth be told- I was given my entire paycheck weeks before the event only because they were not expecting the Anchor to show up on time for the meeting!
What can I say? I'm a stickler for time and so should you be!
If you have reached till the end of this post, then do take a moment to see snippets of the event.
Until next time then! :) :) :)
